Pauline was born in 1912. Pauline's father was Frank J. Kesel and her mother was Cora Rose Merritt. Her paternal grandparents were John Albert (Johannes) Kesel and Anna Kathreen (Catherine) Belert. She had three brothers and a sister, named Frank H., Lewis (Louis) John, Robert M. and Ester Helen. She was the youngest of the five children.
