Margarethe was born on February 17th, 1855. Margarethe's father was Franz Xaver Kesel and her mother was Maria Anna Denk. Her paternal grandparents were Johann Georg Kesel and Margaretha Hering. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Johann, Franz Xaver, Matthias, Adolph, Karoline and ?. She was the youngest of the seven children.
