Franz Michael, known as Franklin M., was born on December 28th, 1841 in Hilsbach, Baden.  Franklin M.'s father was Wilhelm Kesel and his mother was Johanna Roth.  His paternal grandparents were Josef Kesel and Anna Eva Mahlschnee. He had three brothers and a sister, named Augustus Wilhelm, Wilhelm, Heinrich and Sophie.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 76 on January 26th, 1918 in Doniphan, Hall, Nebraska.
