Kesel in the surrounding area of Kempten
Originally I assumed that all Kesels, coming from the former Protestant imperial city, were Protestant. This does not seem to be true at all. Already the foundation deed of Johann Adam Kesel to the family foundation, which originates from the first half of the 18th century, determines that beneficiaries of the foundation can be only Kesel of evangelical faith. This already indicates that there must have been family members of the Catholic denomination who were not resident in the imperial city. In the city archives of Kempten such Catholic Kesels with right of residence in Kempten between 1750 and 1850 are mentioned, which lived however throughout outside of the city borders at that time. Unfortunately, there are no indications as to what family relationship they had with the Kesel who had previously lived in the former imperial city.
